The dog behind the brand

Jack came from the greyhound industry. We don’t actually know whether he ever raced — no official record of it, anyway. What we know is that at three years old he was retired out of that world and into the adoption program, and his napping career has been a runaway success ever since.

He won the dog lottery on adoption day. He went from a kennel to a leather sofa, from a schedule to a calendar of his own choosing, and from competing for kibble to a daily bowl of premium beef mince. Vegetables remain a hard no. He has tried. He has decided. The matter is closed.

He’s the reason Chill Domains exists in the shape it does. Watching a greyhound run is unforgettable — flat out, ears pinned back, around 70 km/h, the fastest dog on earth. Watching a greyhound the rest of the day is also unforgettable, in a different way: he is a long beige cushion with legs, and he is committed to the bit.

That’s the model. Sharp when it counts. Boring on purpose the rest of the time. Register a domain in five minutes, then stay out of your inbox for a year. Be the greyhound.

A day in the life of the CCO

Jack’s schedule is more disciplined than most executives we’ve met. It is also more relaxing.

  • Two long walks a day. Morning and evening, rain or shine. The walks are non-negotiable from his end.
  • Off-leash park, regularly. He has a friend group. They do laps. They do zoomies. Sometimes there is a wrestling phase. He keeps the calendar.
  • His own leather sofa. Not the family sofa, not a sofa, his sofa. Roughly twenty hours a day. He has views on cushion arrangement.
  • Always has human company. He joins us in the office every day — never alone for long, usually within paw-pat range of someone, always with the option of more pats. He considers this the minimum acceptable standard of employment.
  • Watches the footy. Mostly horizontally. Occasionally lifts an ear when the crowd goes off. Has no team. Loves everyone.
  • Premium food only. Beef mince and high-quality kibble. No vegetables. We’ve made peace with this.
  • Peanut butter is a religious event. One smear on a Kong is enough to clear his afternoon.

The official record

Likes & dislikes.

An exhaustive list, in the order he’d rank them if he could be bothered.

Likes: snoozing

The core competency. Twenty hours a day, give or take. Often on his back, legs at improbable angles. We have stopped checking if he’s alive; the snoring confirms it.

Likes: peanut butter

Sacred substance. If a jar opens anywhere in the postcode, he is present. Tail begins to wag before he’s technically awake.

Likes: long walks, twice a day

Morning and evening, every day, no exceptions. The lead is brought to us with intent. You don’t skip leg day with Jack.

Likes: the off-leash park crew

He has friends. They have names. They do laps together. He comes home tired in the good way and goes immediately to the sofa.

Likes: the footy

Doesn’t pick a team. Doesn’t pick a code. If the TV is loud and the humans are happy, that’s a Saturday well spent.

Likes: beef mince, premium kibble

Eats like a small bachelor with strong opinions. Quality only. He notices. Don’t try to swap brands; he’ll know within one sniff.

Likes: going up stairs

An absolute rocket. Takes them three at a time, no hesitation, looks back at the top like it was nothing. Genuinely his favourite cardio.

Dislikes: vegetables

Carrot? No. Broccoli? No. A single rogue pea that fell off the plate? Audited, declined, returned. He is a meat dog. We’ve accepted this.

Dislikes: going down stairs

The exact same staircase that he flew up five minutes ago is now an impossible cliff face. He will stand at the top and stare at you. Long-leggy greyhound physics: going up = rockets; going down = a delicate negotiation, possibly involving carrying.

Dislikes: early mornings

Mornings happen to Jack. He does not participate in them voluntarily. The walk is fine. The getting-up is the issue. Coffee solves it for one of us; nothing solves it for him.

Taxation policy

Taxes paid, in full.

The CCO is a fully compliant Australian taxpayer. Every applicable levy — canine, dairy, soft furnishings — has been assessed, paid, and certified. Documentation below.

Paid

Levy 01

The Dog Tax

A long-standing internet convention. If you mention your dog anywhere online, you are obliged to provide photographic evidence. Failure to pay results in your post being scrolled past without comment.

Paid in full — see photo, above.

Paid

Levy 02

Cheese Tax

A flat 8% levy on all cheese-related events in the household. Payable at the moment of fridge-opening. Jack does not negotiate; he stations himself at the appliance and waits to be assessed.

Rate: 8% · settled at point of sale.

Paid

Levy 03

GST Greyhound Sofa Tax

Not to be confused with the goods-and-services version. Under this regime, the resident greyhound is entitled to full and unencumbered use of the household’s primary leather sofa, in perpetuity.

Settled by handing over the lounge.

Why a sleepy dog runs a domain registrar.

It’s a fair question. Here’s the answer.

Most of the domain industry is built on the opposite of greyhound energy. It’s a sales floor. It’s a checkout with fourteen pre-ticked add-ons. It’s a $0.99 first year and a quietly tripled renewal. It’s “FINAL NOTICE” emails in red. It’s a chatbot named “Daisy” routing you back to the start. It’s busy on purpose, because every extra screen is another chance to upsell.

Jack is not like that. Jack does one thing well, very fast, when it’s actually needed — and the rest of the time he leaves you alone. We register a domain in five minutes. We send one renewal email a year, in plain text, with last year’s price next to this year’s. We don’t chase you. We don’t pester you. We don’t pre-tick anything. We don’t scare-email you sixty days out in bright red.

That’s greyhound philosophy applied to a registrar. Sharp when it counts. Asleep otherwise. Be the dog.

Quick disclosures, in the interest of full honesty

  • Jack does not handle billing. We checked. He is uninterested.
  • Jack does not reply to support emails. A human (John) does that — usually same day.
  • Jack is, however, present for most company decisions. From the sofa. With his eyes closed. We take this as approval.
  • No greyhounds were rushed in the making of this domain registrar.

If you’d like to adopt a retired greyhound of your own — ten out of ten, would recommend, can confirm they are 95% sofa — have a look at Greyhounds As Pets, the official adoption program. They are gentle, quiet, weirdly cat-like dogs who will change your life and your couch arrangement, in that order.

Ready when you are

Transfer your domains in about five minutes.

Tell us what you’ve got registered elsewhere. We’ll quote the all-in transfer (no transfer fee — just one year of cheap renewal added on), walk you through the auth code, and move the DNS without breaking your site. New domain instead? Same form, same flat price.
