SYDNEY, 13 October 2026 — Chill Domains, an Australian domain name service run by Sydney IT consultancy Digital Greenhouse, is dedicated to low ongoing renewal fees rather than a cheap first year. Every domain renews at the same list price a new customer pays that day. A .com.au is $20 a year including GST when you register it, and $20 when it renews.
Domain names are often sold on the first-year price. The renewal price, the one a business pays every year after that, can sit in a footnote, behind a login or off the page entirely. By the time it arrives, the website, email and business cards all depend on the name, and moving feels like more trouble than paying.
Chill Domains puts the renewal price on the same line as the first-year price, and they are the same number.
“The renewal is the bill that matters. You pay it every year for as long as you own the name, so that’s the price we keep low and keep simple. There’s no introductory deal to run out and no price shock in year two.”
— John Walsh-Green, founder, Digital Greenhouse and Chill Domains
How the pricing works
- One list price per extension. The same price applies to a new registration and a renewal, and new and existing customers pay the same. There’s no transfer fee: a .au transfer is free unless it’s within 90 days of expiry, when it includes the renewal.
- No promotional first year. There’s no intro rate that rolls over to a “standard” rate later.
- The price is in every reminder. Plain-text reminders go out 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before expiry, each stating the current price. No countdown timers.
- Auto-renew is off by default. If a customer turns it on, Chill Domains emails the price before every renewal.
- No transfer-out fee. Customers can reveal their transfer code from the dashboard at any time, with no retention call.
- The basics are included. DNS hosting, email forwarding, URL forwarding, and WHOIS privacy for extensions that support it, with nothing pre-ticked at checkout.
Prices
Per year, in Australian dollars including GST, at registration and at renewal: .com.au, .au, .net.au, .org.au and .id.au are $20; .com is $28; .net and .org are $35. Every extension is on the pricing page.
If a list price ever changes, it changes for every customer at the same time, and the reminder email shows the current price before anyone renews. The wholesale price of .au domains rose on 1 October 2026 (the numbers are here), and a .com.au from Chill Domains is $20 a year. Some registries charge more for certain premium names; checkout shows the first-year and renewal price for those before payment.
About Chill Domains
Chill Domains registers and transfers domain names for Australian businesses, sole traders and individuals. It is a business name of Digital Greenhouse Pty Ltd (ABN 92 148 046 799) and a domain reseller, not a registrar: every domain is registered through an auDA- and ICANN-accredited wholesale registrar partner. Its mascot and Chief Chill Officer is Jack, a retired greyhound. More at who runs Chill Domains.
