The short answer

Sign in to webmail at ax.email with your full email address and password. To add the mailbox to a mail app, choose IMAP and use ax.email for both servers: port 993 for incoming mail and 465 for outgoing, both with SSL/TLS.

  • Your username is always your full email address, like hello@yourname.com.au.
  • On a phone, the Gmail app works well. Your work mail sits next to your personal Gmail.
  • On a computer, use webmail or a mail program. Gmail on the web can’t add it.
  • Domain with us? We’ve already added the records. Domain elsewhere? Add the records we email you first.

Your mailbox settings

Every mail app asks for the same few things. Keep this table handy.

SettingIncoming mail (IMAP)Outgoing mail (SMTP)
Serverax.emailax.email
Port993465
SecuritySSL/TLSSSL/TLS
UsernameYour full email addressYour full email address
PasswordYour mailbox passwordThe same password (outgoing mail needs sign-in)

Use ax.email exactly, not mail.yourname.com.au. The server’s security certificate is for ax.email, so any other name brings up a certificate warning.

Choose IMAP rather than POP whenever an app asks. IMAP leaves your mail on the server, so your phone, laptop and webmail all show the same inbox and folders. Email and your domain explains the two.

Webmail: read mail in any browser

  1. Open webmail

Go to ax.email in any browser.

  2. Sign in

Enter your full email address and your password.

Webmail is also where you set an auto-reply or a signature. Look in its settings.

The Gmail app on Android

Google’s Gmail app adds outside mailboxes over IMAP, and they sit beside your Google account. You can add up to five.

  1. Add an account

Open the Gmail app. At the top right, tap your profile picture, then Add another account, then Other.

  2. Your address

Enter your full email address and tap Next. Choose Personal (IMAP), enter your password and tap Next.

  3. Incoming server

Server ax.email, port 993, security SSL/TLS. Username is your full address.

  4. Outgoing server

Server ax.email, port 465, security SSL/TLS, sign-in required, with the same username and password. Then follow the last screens to finish.

To switch between your personal Gmail and your work mail, tap your profile picture and pick the account.

The Gmail app on iPhone and iPad

  1. Add an account

Open the Gmail app. In the search bar at the top, tap your profile picture, then Add another account, then Other (IMAP).

  2. Your address

Enter your full email address and tap Next.

  3. The settings

Enter your password and the settings from the table: ax.email, port 993 incoming and 465 outgoing, both SSL/TLS. Follow the screens to finish.

iPhone Mail

  1. Open Mail settings

Open Settings, tap Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts, then Add Account.

  2. Choose another account

Enter your email address and tap Next. Tap Add Other Account, then Mail Account.

  3. Your details

Enter your name, email address, password and a description, such as “Work”. Tap Next. If Mail finds the settings by itself, tap Done and you’re finished.

  4. If it asks for servers

Choose IMAP. Put ax.email as both the Incoming and the Outgoing Mail Server, with your full address as the username and your password in both places. Tap Next, then Save.

On older iPhones the first step is Settings › Mail › Accounts › Add Account › Other. The rest is the same.

Outlook on Windows

Classic Outlook (the one with a File menu):

  1. Add an account

Click File, then Add Account. Enter your email address.

  2. Set it up by hand

Click Advanced options, tick Let me set up my account manually, and click Connect. Choose IMAP.

  3. The settings

Incoming mail: ax.email, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS. Outgoing mail: ax.email, port 465, encryption SSL/TLS. Click Next.

  4. Sign in

Enter your password and click Connect.

New Outlook: on the View tab choose View settings (or File › Account info), then Accounts › Your accounts. Choose Add Account and enter your email address. If it asks what kind of account it is, choose IMAP and enter the settings from the table.

Apple Mail on a Mac

  1. Add an account

In the Mail app, choose Mail › Add Account. Enter your email address and click Continue.

  2. Your details

Follow the prompts for your name and password.

  3. If it asks for servers

Choose IMAP, and put ax.email as both the Incoming and the Outgoing Mail Server, with your full address as the user name and your mailbox password.

Thunderbird

Thunderbird is free for Windows, Mac and Linux, and good for keeping a copy of your mail on your own computer. Add a new mail account, enter your name, email address and password, then choose Configure manually and enter the settings from the table. Set authentication to Normal password.

Domain elsewhere? The records to add

If your domain is registered with us, we add these records for you and you can skip this part. If it’s with another provider, we email you the exact records within 1 business day. Add them in the DNS settings wherever your nameservers point, then reply to let us know. For yourname.com.au they look like this:

Type Host Value Prio
TXT @ (the verification line from our email)
MX @ mx1.ax.email 10
MX @ mx2.ax.email 10
MX @ mx3.ax.email 20
MX @ mx4.ax.email 30
TXT @ v=spf1 a mx include:spf.ax.email ~all
TXT axigen._domainkey (the DKIM key from our email)
CNAME autodiscover ax.email
  • Verification first. The verification line proves the domain is yours. It can take about an hour to be accepted after you add it, even when it already shows up in DNS lookups. We switch the mailbox on and send you the DKIM key once it’s through.
  • Delete any other MX records. Old ones from a previous mail provider or forwarding service would send some of your mail to the wrong place.
  • Only one SPF record. If the domain already has a TXT record starting v=spf1, add include:spf.ax.email to it instead of creating a second one. Two SPF records make both fail.
  • The autodiscover record is optional. It helps some mail apps find the settings by themselves.
  • DMARC is a good extra once mail is flowing: a TXT record on _dmarc with the value v=DMARC1; p=none to start. Email and your domain explains it.

Some DNS hosts want the full name in the Host box (axigen._domainkey.yourname.com.au) and some add your domain for you. If unsure, look at how your existing records are written.

Extra addresses, bigger mailboxes and passwords

  • Extra addresses like sales@ or accounts@ that land in the same inbox: email us and ask.
  • Running out of room? Email us and we’ll move you up a size and keep all your mail. We tell you the cost first.
  • Forgotten your password? Reply to our set-up email and we’ll sort it out.
  • Moving on later? Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 can both import a whole IMAP mailbox, or you can copy your folders into Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail. See moving your Axigen mailbox to Workspace or 365.

Common questions

Can I read my Axigen mail in Gmail on my computer?
Not directly. Gmail on the web no longer lets new users fetch mail from other mailboxes, and Google is removing the feature in January 2027. On a computer, use webmail at ax.email or a mail program such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird. The Gmail app on your phone is fine.
Should I choose IMAP or POP?
IMAP. It keeps your mail on the server, so every device sees the same inbox and folders, and a lost phone doesn’t take your mail with it. POP downloads mail to one device and can remove it from the server.
Do calendar and contacts sync?
No. It is email only. If you need a shared calendar and contacts, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is the better fit. Our email hosting comparison sets them side by side.
Can I use it on more than one device?
Yes. Webmail, your phone and your laptop all read the same mailbox at the same time.

Ready when you are

Bring your domains over, or start a new one.

Pop in a domain you already own and start the transfer in a few minutes. You’ll need its transfer code (auth code) from your current registrar. There’s no transfer fee: a .au transfer is free unless it’s within 90 days of expiry, when it includes the $20 renewal. New domain instead? Search for it and pay by card at checkout.
