The .co and .com mix-up

The main thing to plan for with a .co is that people type .com by habit. Some visitors will land on the .com version of your name, and some email meant for you may go there too.

If the matching .com is available, consider registering it as well and forwarding it to your .co. If someone else owns the .com, check what they use it for before you print the business cards.

Only restricted names such as .gov.co and .edu.co need a local Colombian registrar. For an Australian business, .com.au avoids the mix-up entirely, if you’re eligible.

What the price includes

  • DNS hosting with A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV and CAA records, plus email and URL forwarding
  • Plain-text renewal reminders 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before expiry — they stop if you renew or tell us not to
  • Passkey and two-factor sign-in, and a transfer code you can reveal yourself any time
  • Registered through an accredited wholesale registrar partner, named as the registrar in public WHOIS

Questions about .co

Is .co only for Colombian businesses?
No. It’s Colombia’s country-code domain, overseen by the country’s ICT ministry (MinTIC), but open to registrants anywhere. Only restricted names such as .gov.co and .edu.co need a local Colombian registrar.
Will people mistype my .co as .com?
Some will. It’s the most common problem with a .co. If you can, register the matching .com as well and forward it to your .co.
Why can I only register a .co for up to 5 years?
That’s the .co registry’s limit: a registration can’t run for more than 5 years at a time. New registrations here are for one year, and you can renew for longer from your dashboard, up to that limit.
Can I move a new .co to Chill Domains straight away?
Usually not straight away. A new or recently transferred .co is normally locked against transfer for a period (commonly 60 days; the .co registry sets the rule). After that, get the auth code from your current registrar and start a transfer.

Ready when you are

Bring your domains over, or start a new one.

Pop in a domain you already own and start the transfer in a few minutes. You’ll need its transfer code (auth code) from your current registrar. There’s no transfer fee: a .au transfer is free unless it’s within 90 days of expiry, when it includes the $20 renewal. New domain instead? Search for it and pay by card at checkout.
