Register a .dev domain — $37/year, same at renewal
A .dev costs $37 a year including GST at Chill Domains, and renewal is the same list price. It’s run by Google Registry and open to anyone. The whole .dev extension is on the HSTS preload list, so a .dev website only loads over HTTPS.

What HTTPS-only means for your .dev
Browsers ship with a built-in HSTS preload list of domains that must always use HTTPS. Google Registry put the entire .dev extension on that list, so browsers refuse plain http:// for any .dev site.
Before your site will load, whatever serves it needs a valid TLS certificate for your domain. Free certificates from Let’s Encrypt work, and many hosts set one up for you. You can check a certificate with our SSL lookup tool.
HSTS only affects websites. Email, MX records and other DNS records work as they do on any domain.
If you plan to forward the .dev to another site, check the forwarding service answers over HTTPS for your domain first. A forward served over plain HTTP won’t load. Building an app instead? .app has the same rule.
